What is Shakti Yoga?

Shakti Yoga a devotional and sacred practice in reverence to the divine feminine and practiced in a safe space that is infused with devotion and intention.

It's a grounding practice that connects you through your womb space, down through your base and into Mother Earth where you’re grounded and supported throughout the practice. This brings you out of your head and into your body, to listen to the deep wisdom within.

Shakti Yoga is designed for the female body. The positions and guided postures have been developed to nurture and nourish the female body. To harness the power within a woman’s body, and rather than reach for peak performance, it’s a practice to sink deeper and longer into the experience. Opening up opportunities for a more subtle approach enables one to feel more in tune with your own energy.

Honoring of the cycles of the female body and uniqueness. Women are invited to listen to their body and meet themselves where they are at on the day. Whether that’s their bleeding cycle, or whether they’re no longer bleeding, to accept and honor their unique body and how it wishes to express itself on the day.

Above all, it’s about slowing down. A time to breathe. A time to feel. A time to listen to one’s body and honor where you’ re at. Calming the nervous system so that healing may take place. Allowing space for things to bubble up that otherwise may not have been noticed in a fast-paced world.

What is Shakti?

The word Shakti, meaning power is the divine feminine energy force or intelligence that resides within the all. She’s the energy of the flower that blooms, the pulsating life force that is our planet Earth, she beats our heart and is the breath of a newborn baby and the sprout of a new seed. She permeates every living cell; she is the feminine aspect of creation itself. The mystery and magic of life itself is found within the study of Shakti.

To explain Shakti is to speak of the primordial spark that created all that is. She’s powerful yet subtle, strong yet gentle, everywhere yet nowhere, felt yet unseen. She takes form as the divine mother and as the great goddess. She is worshiped as representations in the form of goddesses Durga, Kali and Lakshmi and several other deities. We are all made of the divine creative energy Shakti.

Why do I share Shakti Yoga?

I feel passionate about sharing this feminine based form of yoga, because like me, most women have not been raised to believe that they are sacred and holy. They have not been shown or guided on how to connect with the divine power within them, Shakti. In this fast paced world, women feel cut off from their true essence, their pleasure, their womb, their yoni, their sensuality and above all, the knowing that they hold the most powerful energy on the planet.

I spent most of my life cut off from the power of who I am. I felt no connection to my sacred feminine self and my womb was thought of nothing more than a part of my anatomy. I feel it’s extremely important for women of this time to be shown and guided in practices that open them up to the depth of who they really are. To know themselves in a way that opens them up to their own power and intuition. To take up space in the world and express themselves creatively and freely.

I am a vessel here to serve. I vow to create a safe space for women to unfurl and relax, to be guided into their sacred body. I vow to do this with the utmost respect for her being.

I bow to the women who join me in this work.

I feel honoured to share Shakti Yoga as taught to me by Foundress, Jasmine Rose (pictured below with me after the completion of the final Shakti Yoga teacher training ceremony).
